RTD offers free fare for a year for those 19 and younger

DENVER (KDVR) — Beginning in September, Coloradans aged 19 and younger can ride RTD transit for free for a year.Zero Fare for Youth is a one-year pilot program aiming to welcome the next generation of transit users at no cost. The program will run from Sept. 1 through Aug. 21, 2024.The program hopes to remove barriers to education and employment for youth in Colorado. School bus drops 5-year-old student over a mile from home Anyone 19 or younger can ride the bus and train at no cost, all you need is a valid ID. The rider must show the bus operator their current school ID, valid government-issued ID, alien registration/permanent resident card, military ID/dependent card with date of birth, or RTD-issued youth special discount card and they are off to their next destination. According to RTD, a household can save nearly $10,000 by taking public transportation and living with one less car. DENVER (KDVR) -- A two-story sculpture named "Umi" came to life on Saturday at Hogan Park in the Aurora Highlands neighborhood. Daniel Popper added the interactive exhibit as part of the Art in the Park program. Popper is a South African sculpture artist specializing in large, human-like sculptures made of wood, fiberglass and natural fibers. He focuses on the relationship between humans and nature. A 33-year-old man has been arraigned in connection with a motorcycle crash that injured two pedestrians in Falmouth earlier this month, Falmouth police announced on Monday. Police said emergency crews responded to the scene on Main Street around 8:45 p.m. on Monday of last week after receiving a call saying a motorcycle had hit two pedestrians in a crosswalk. Police said emergency crews soon found a husband and wife, both in their 60s, injured in the roadway and transported the couple to area hospitals. The motorcycle operator, according to police, initially pushed his motorcycle off the roadway “and appeared to be waiting for emergency personnel to arrive.” Before police arrived on scene, though, investigators said the man allegedly fled on foot into a nearby wooded area. Police searched for the operator on the night of the crash but were not able to find him. Police are searching for four suspects following a violent home invasion in Markham that left one woman with injuries.York Regional Police officers were called to the home in the area of Greensboro Drive and Milliken Meadows Drive near Highway 407 just before 2:30 a.m. on Monday.Police say four male suspects, one armed with a gun, forced their way into the home and assaulted a woman while restraining two other adults in their bedroom.According to investigators, the suspects stole several cell phones and wallets before fleeing the scene.The woman who was assaulted received minor injuries.A dog, described as a small brown poodle, got out of the home during the incident and hasn’t been found.
