As the buzz began to build on the Chicago Bears sideline when they went up by two scores at Soldier Field, the players had the ultimate reminder to stay focused lurking in the back of their minds. That 12-point lead the Bears took over the Detroit Lions at the beginning of the fourth quarter Sunday? The Lions easily overcame the same deficit in just four minutes in the teams’ last meeting on Nov. 19 at Ford Field.“You definitely get that feeling where you’re up two scores, you’re kind of getting a little happy,” Bears defensive end Montez Sweat said. “We’re like, ‘Hold on, back up, because we just got humbled two, three weeks ago.’ So we wanted to finish on a good note this time.”This time, the Bears’ defensive second-half performance in a 28-13 win qualified as finishing on a good note. After falling behind 13-10 at halftime, the Bears didn’t allow the Lions a second-half point. In seven second-half drives, the Li...Voter turnout plunges below 30% in Hong Kong election after rules shut out pro-democracy candidates

HONG KONG (AP) — Voter turnout plunged below 30% in Hong Kong’s first district council elections since new rules introduced under Beijing’s guidance effectively shut out all pro-democracy candidates, setting a record low since the former British colony returned to Chinese rule in 1997.According to official data on Monday, 27.5% of the city’s 4.3 million registered voters cast ballots in Sunday’s polls — significantly less than the record 71.2% who participated in the last elections held at the height of anti-government protests in 2019. The pro-democracy camp won those polls in a landslide victory, in a clear rebuke of the government’s handling of the protests.Beijing loyalists are expected to take control of the district councils after Sunday’s elections, with partial returns showing big pro-government parties gaining more seats than independent candidates and smaller parties. The district councils, which primarily handle municipal matters such as organizing ...Man accused of stabbing Panda Express worker over food quality in Missouri

The icy conditions that caused hundreds of crashes over the weekend may linger into Monday morning, but don’t put away your sandals just yet, meteorologists said Sunday.Brennan Dettmann, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, said roads may still be slick during the Monday morning commute because cloudy skies kept temperatures below freezing Sunday, and temperatures will remain in the mid to upper-teens overnight.“Tomorrow we’ll see an increase in temperatures, and that should help,” Dettmann said, noting that the temperature should rise above freezing by Monday afternoon. While some areas in the metro saw nearly an inch of snow during a Saturday evening storm, St. Paul received just half an inch. The city deployed extra public works staff on Sunday to help mitigate slippery roads on hills and problem areas in the city, said St. Paul Public Works Director Sean Kershaw. The Minnesota State Patrol posted that as of 9 a.m. Sunday they had ...Meet the local teen champion cloggers

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — The Broncos offense made enough plays on Sunday to log their first division road win in three-plus years.Imagine how dangerous the group might be if Jerry Jeudy finds any semblance of a rhythm down the stretch.Denver coach Sean Payton and quarterback Russell Wilson made a concerted effort to push the ball down the field to the talented receiver, but he finished with just two catches for 16 yards on six targets in a 24-7 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.Jeudy had two chances to make catches up the right sideline in the first half, but couldn’t come down with either. Then he had a touchdown in the back corner of the end zone wiped off the board just before halftime when he failed to get his trailing foot down inbounds.Instead of leading by two touchdowns, Denver eventually settled for a short Wil Lutz field goal and took a 10-0 lead into the break.“Oh look, he’ll get his touches.
