SAN DIEGO -- Notable businessman Daymond John on Friday joined the FOX 5 set to discuss his new children's book on financial literacy. John, best known for being the founder and CEO of clothing label FUBU as well as a star television personality on the hit show "Shark Tank," is in San Diego to promote his latest work called "Little Daymond Learns to Earn."The entrepreneur says his inspiration for the children's book stems from him being tired of reading his six-year-old daughter books about "some prince that is going to come and save her and find her a glass slipper or save her from a tower.""I wanted her, as well as our little boys, to believe that she can make her own slippers and enjoy selling them and I want the prince to come and say, 'Wow, who owns this whole slipper store, I need to meet her,'" John said. 2 California lottery players win a total of $10 million from scratchers tickets John believes financial literacy should be in today's curriculum."It's not about a book, i...Extensive storm damage pushes Oceanside to declare local emergency

Save lives.

“Coming of age.” There is a reason we immediately understand the meaning of this phrase. Common sense, plus our memories of high school, remind us that some experiences are better reserved for later in life. We already prevent youth from buying and possessing alcohol and tobacco until age 21 because these restrictions save lives. Similarly, allowing youth to buy and possess guns at the age of 18 takes lives. Why make this call? We see solid research about the delayed development of the human brain, particularly in areas that may alter a person’s likelihood of involvement in violence against themselves or others.Tragically, this research has been validated right here in Denver in two recent incidents:First, on Feb. 13, East High School soccer player Luis Garcia, 16, was shot while sitting in his car outside the high school. He died of his wounds on March 1. Other teenagers are suspected of being the killers, although no charges have been filed.Second, less than six weeks ...Video captures thief stealing hundreds of medical records from Sherman Oaks dental office

Security video captures a thief breaking into a Sherman Oaks dental office and stealing hundreds of files containing patients' personal information on Thursday. The break-in happened at Riverside Dental located on the 12900 block of Riverside Drive just after 3 a.m. Surveillance cameras captured the thief entering the office through a broken back window. As he finds the room where medical records are stored on a shelf, he’s seen quickly grabbing large piles of folders and stuffing them into a bag. The entire theft happened within a matter of minutes.“He’s going to sell them,” said Andy Kay, a Los Angeles-based private investigator. “If he’s going after medical records, he’s going to sell them to the highest bidder.”Kay said the burglar either already has a buyer for the patient records or will start selling the records on the dark web. LAFAYETTE – Kailani Tatro struck out 11 batters, gave up just three hits, and finished the complete game with her and Pinole Valley’s 10th victory of the year. And somehow, the 5-2 victory over Acalanes could still be considered an “off game.”That’s how dominant Tatro, a senior pitcher with a knack for locating offspeed pitches, has been for the Spartans.“When I’m in the game, and my arm starts feeling tired, I just take a deep breath and rely on my spin,” Tatro said. “That’s what gets me through all the games.”It took until her 56th inning of the season for Tatro to surrender an earned run, the bottom of the sixth in Friday night’s cold and windy contest in Lafayette.LAFAYETTE – Acalanes infielder Hailey Stripling handles a ground ball. SAN JOSE — Tanner Kern was Archbishop Mitty’s last hope when he stepped into the batter’s box with two outs in extra innings Friday, his team trailing by a run on a blustery and cool spring afternoon. It certainly was not a time for the faint of heart, on either side, as the tying run stood at third, the winning run at second. At the plate was the left-handed-hitting Kern, who had just 10 plate appearances this season, the most recent as a pinch hitter an inning earlier.“I was just trying to help my team in the best way,” Kern said. “It just came out well. I just stuck with the Mitty approach and just did what I did.”What the junior did was hit a flyball toward the alley in left-center that dropped in for a double, knocking in both runners to lift Mitty — ranked No. 1 by the Bay Area News Group — to a 3-2, eight-inning victory over fourth-ranked Bellarmine in West Catholic Athletic League play.Mitty players spilled out of the dugou...Alum Rock Park closed indefinitely due to storms

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) – A popular park in the South Bay remained closed Friday night. It was first shut down back in January after powerful winter storms caused widespread damage to the park, and after more wild weather events, there is no timeline on when the park might reopen. With locks on the gate, and signs that say “Danger,” Alum Rock Park in San Jose has been closed since January.“We’re hoping to open the park soon to hikers, bikers, and walkers for the time being, and we plan for the entering and exiting of the park to be one way in and out,” said Daniel Lazo, the City of San Jose’s public information manager. Severe storms expose 911 dispatch staffing issues Lazo says there is still road damage, landslides, and mudslides happening inside the park from recent storms. SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – San Francisco’s 911 center is facing extreme staffing issues as yet another big storm is expected next week. In a series of tweets, the executive director of the Department of Emergency Management said Tuesday that 911 calls were 400 percent over normal call volume. The concern now is meeting the demand but also trying to fill the many open positions.Mary Ellen Carroll, the author of the tweets, tells us this is not a new problem but Tuesday’s storm amplified their staffing issues. She says the department has been working to recruit dispatchers, but it’s a problem that cannot be solved immediately. This week’s wild weather sent people into a panic as San Francisco’s emergency phone lines saw a major surge in calls. Carroll says their dispatch center was fully staffed on Tuesday, but the deluge exposed a chronic problem. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Jordan Poole emerged as one of Golden State’s most dependable performers during the championship run last season. He resembled that go-to guy once again Friday night when the Warriors needed everything he had, with the ever-reliable Draymond Green doing his thing, too.“Opportunity,” Poole said of his stellar fourth quarter playing all 12 minutes.Poole scored 33 points and swished a key 3-pointer with 1:18 to play off a pretty pass by Green, Stephen Curry added 29 points and eight rebounds, and the Golden State Warriors rallied past Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers 120-112 on Friday night.“Tonight something about it felt like last year in that playoff run when Jordan was just attacking and knocking down shots but also getting to the line just giving us an entirely different dimension offensively,” coach Steve Kerr said. “That’s when he’s at his best. I thought he really competed down the stretch defensively as well. He was magnificent tonight.”Embiid c...Latest news
