RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Authorities in Brazil foiled a terror plot Wednesday when they arrested two people in Sao Paulo state, the Federal Police said in a statement.The two suspects were recruited and financed by the Lebanese militia Hezbollah and planned to target buildings tied to the Jewish community, according to an official with information about the plot who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. The police statement did not give details about the suspects. It said police also executed 11 search warrants in Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais and the Federal District that were aimed at obtaining proof of possible recruitment of Brazilians for carrying out extremist acts in the country, adding that it was targeting both recruits and recruiters.Local paper O Globo reported that police arrested one of the two suspects when they returned to the international airport in Sao Paulo, with information in hand to carry out the attack. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Preston Mattingly was promoted Monday to the Philadelphia Phillies’ assistant general manager for player development.A son of former New York Yankees great and current Toronto Blue Jays bench coach Don Mattingly, Preston Mattingly was hired by the Phillies in September 2021 to run the club’s player development system. Mattingly spent five seasons with the San Diego Padres as coordinator of major league advance scouting and game planning after working as manager of scouting for three years. The Phillies also promoted Brian Barber to assistant general manager of amateur scouting. FRISCO, Texas (AP) — The Dallas Cowboys signed receiver Martavis Bryant to their practice squad Wednesday, ending a five-year absence from the NFL for a player who has been suspended three times.Bryant last played in 2018 with the Raiders before they moved from Oakland to Las Vegas. (CNN) — The owners of a Colorado funeral home were arrested Wednesday in Oklahoma, weeks after 190 sets of human remains were discovered “improperly stored” at their business, authorities say.Jon Hallford and Carie Hallford were arrested on suspicion of abuse of a corpse, theft, money laundering and forgery, according to a news release from the district attorney’s office.An investigation began after a foul odor was reported coming from the Return to Nature Funeral Home in Penrose, about 30 miles south of Colorado Springs. Firefighters were on scene in Winchester Wednesday as a fire burned in a local home. The fire broke out on Washington Street. Later flying over the scene, SKY7-HD spotted heavy smoke billowing from a hole in the home’s roof. The owner of an at-home daycare in Walpole has been arrested, according to police, accused of leaving a baby and two young kids alone while she attacked her husband with a baseball bat earlier this year. Walpole police said they were first called to the scene on Plain Street on Sept. 20. Once on scene, police said, officers found 58-year-old Diane Fenton in the middle of the road swinging a wooden bat at her husband’s arms and chest. The victim told officers the incident happened after he accused his wife of being drunk. At the time, Fenton was running “Diane’s Daycare” out of her home. When police went inside, they said they found a six-month-old child face down on the carpet along with a three-year-old and a four-year-old. 7NEWS went to the Fenton home on Wednesday for comment on the allegations against her. “I can’t talk about it right now,” Fenton said. A new study led by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Penn State University shows increasing workplace flexibility may lower the risk of cardiovascular disease. Published on Thursday in the American Journal of Public Health, the study looked at stressors in the workplace that can cause heart attacks and strokes. The study also looked closely at lower wage earners who researchers say are more vulnerable due to their lack of control over their schedules and job demands. Speaking with 7NEWS, one researcher said the stress can get to anybody. “Anybody can have a bad day and it raises your blood pressure a little bit,” said Dr. Lisa Berkman, a public health researcher at Harvard and the director of the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies. “But the kinds of things that cause these changes are enduring and longer term.” Berkman continued, saying “It probably reflects exposure on the job for years.” and it’s not necessarily one job.”“It’s...Latest news
