VANCOUVER — An evacuation order covering hundreds of properties south of Kamloops, B.C., has been scaled back to an alert as crews make good progress containing a wildfire about 10 kilometres south of the city. The Thompson-Nicola Regional District allowed residents of 327 properties to return home, although they must be ready to leave again on short notice. The 26-square-kilometre Ross Moore Lake wildfire was sparked by lightning one week ago and forced the evacuation of properties from Lac Le Jeune to near the outskirts of Kamloops. The regional district said 18 properties remained on evacuation order but the City of Kamloops ended its evacuation alert for the Knutsford neighbourhood, southeast of the city, as the BC Wildfire Service reported cleanup was underway on the flank of the fire nearest those homes. The blaze was still listed as out of control, but guards were being built and an additional 40 firefighters were expected Friday to focus on areas needing cleanup and patrols.The...Severe weather possible Friday night after hot, humid day

It's been a hot, steamy Friday with high temps which made it into the low and mid 90s—with dew points as high as 80-deg at a number of locations. And now we're monitoring for severe weather Friday and potential flooding rains. The Chicago area is at a Level 3 risk of severe weather on the storm prediction center's 5-tier risk scale and also the risk of excessive rainfall. Initially scattered gusty t-storms will grow numerous during the evening with greater than 90% prospects for thunderstorms arriving in clusters capable of drenching and possibly flooding downpours in harder hit locations. On Thursday, a jury found Thessalonica Allen guilty of eight counts including murder, abuse of a corpse, neglect of a dependent and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Previous reports detail that Allen was originally arrested in July 2021 after she allegedly shot and killed her husband, Randy Allen. Indiana man accused of murdering uncle, stabbing father Randy Allen had reportedly been helping the two teenage children with homework on July 27, 2021 when he noticed a website he believed their mother had visited. Randy Allen confronted his wife about the site leading to an argument. The children told investigators they then heard a loud bang come from the bedroom. It was a hot, steamy FRIDAY with high temps which made it into the low and mid 90s—with dew points as high as 80-deg at a number of locations. As I mentioned in an earlier Facebook post, the t-storms which traversed the area overnight and in Friday's pre-dawn air tempered the heat producing capability of the air mass. We might well have hit 100-deg absent those t-storms. As it turns out. the highest temps I've found as of mid-afternoon across the Greater Chicago area have been 94 at Evanston and Barrington and 93 at Belmont Harbor here in Chicago and at Vernon Hills.Dew Points of 80-degrees indicate incredibly humid air! The highest dew points we've logged over the years here in Chicago have been in the low 80s. So we've got near "TOP TIER" atmosphere moisture levels. Precipitatable water measurements, which tell us how much moisture is evaporated in a column of air reaching 30,000 ft. into the atmosphere are approaching 2". I've mentioned in the past that I remember very few occas...Man critically injured in Oak Park building fire dies
