SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Law enforcement agencies in Illinois may soon be able to fly drones at special events like parades and festivals.A bill in the Capitol would allow law enforcement to use drones in situations like that to look for security breaches and any threats to public safety. Shots fired on Chicago's North Avenue Beach hours after opening for the summer “They want to be able to attend these festivals with their children, and feel safe, and if we can put a drone up to help provide real-time intelligence to help with public safety, I think everybody's in support of that,” Kenny Winslow, the executive director of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, said.Currently, some law enforcement agencies across the state use drones for situations like search and rescue or to look for a missing person. But they do face some restrictions, specifically when they want to use drones for public safety.“We could put cameras up on telephone poles, we could put officers on top of...Kroger changing digital coupon policy for some customers

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN) — More than 100 people from the community of New Sweden attended a public meeting in protest of a proposed concrete-batch plant. Nearly every neighbor who made a comment criticized the Texas Commission Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for "insufficient notification."According to the TCEQ notice of application for an air-quality standard permit, the site of the plant would be off Manda Carlson Road northeast of Manor — a developing but still rural area of Travis County.Five Star Concrete submitted the application and declined to give a comment to KXAN at the public hearing.Residents in this area have formed a group called "Save New Sweden" in response to the company's proposed plant. They said their goal is to stop the plant's construction. The group cited concerns that it would bring noise and light pollution to the quiet, farming community."We don’t expect it to stay the same obviously, but people want to stand up and say this is not development that we want ...Activists gather to remember lives lost

A group of riders were stuck after a rollercoaster at Knott’s Berry Farm stalled on Friday night.Citizen video captured riders’ feet dangling on the tall lift hill of the Silver Bullet coaster as they ascended toward the first drop.Park crew members responded to the area and were seen climbing toward the trapped guests while they remained strapped into their seats. Silver Bullet is an inverted suspension coaster that opened in 2004 and has since become one of the park’s marquee attractions.Due to the coaster’s many high-thrill elements such as corkscrews, cobra rolls, zero-g rolls and vertical loops, all riders are strapped in with over-the-shoulder restraints. Video captured guests looking on as park workers attended to the coaster train. It's unclear what initially caused the ride to stall. No injuries were reported so far.SF Giants explode for 15 runs in rout of Brewers, own first winning record since last August

MILWAUKEE — The Giants tried and failed once this week to climb over .500. In their second attempt on Friday, they left little doubt.Unloading on Brewers starter Freddy Peralta, the Giants brought 10 men to the plate in the third inning and scored seven of them, providing ample cushion for Alex Wood and San Francisco’s bullpen in a 15-1 rout, their second in a row over the Brewers and their ninth in their past 11 games. With their run of red-hot play, the Giants (26-25) will wake up Saturday morning with a winning record for the first time since Aug. 17 of last season.Their scoring explosion in the third inning eclipsed even what they were able to accomplish playing in the pinball machine that was Estadio Harp Helu in Mexico City last month, scoring their most runs in an inning since last April, a figure they have topped in a full game only three times this season.Leading the charge, Mitch Haniger drove in a season-high four runs, accomplishing something he hasn’t done s...Nordqvist, Knight hit clutch shots to advance in LPGA Match Play

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — Anna Nordqvist had all three of her matches go the distance, and only a clutch wedge kept her from playing even more Friday as she was among 16 players who advanced out of group play in the Bank of Hope LPGA Match Play.Nordqvist would have faced a three-way playoff if she lost to Andrea Lee. That appeared likely when the Swede hit into the creek in front of the 18th green at Shadow Creek while Lee was on the green some 50 feet from the hole.Nordqvist, the top seed in her group, hit a wedge that caught the back slope and settled 3 feet away and Lee three-putted for bogey to halve the match and send Nordqvist (2-0-1 in group play) into the weekend.“I hit a good wedge in there to tie the match,” Nordqvist said. “I’m very happy to move on.”Cheyenne Knight was just as clutch, minus the water. She came in 2-0 in her group and needed only to halve her match against Sei Young Kim to advance. Otherwise, Knight would have faced a three-way playoff.Kim was 1 ...Kimbrel 8th pitcher in MLB history to earn 400 saves, Phillies beat Braves 6-4
