Among the most controversial additions is new language calling for school staff to use “restorative practices” as “a preventative and restorative approach to unwanted behavior” and an “alternative to suspension.”While the draft of the code of behavior update doesn’t feature any significant changes to the section on categories of behavior and possible responses, it does call for teachers to use a “graduated system which incorporates instructio...Counter-terrorism experts say Africa is the world’s terrorism hot spot with half of 2022’s victims

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Counter-terrorism experts said Tuesday that Africa is now the world’s terrorism hot spot, with half of the victims killed last year in sub-Saharan Africa, though al-Qaida and Islamic State affiliates remain widespread, persistent and active elsewhere around the globe. Interpol, the international criminal police agency, also reported during a panel discussion at the U.N. that terrorism linked to extreme right-wing ideology increased an estimated 50-fold over the past decade, particularly in Europe, North America and parts of the Asia-Pacific.The experts see other trends: Deteriorating global security is making the terrorism threat “more complex and decentralized.” Extremists are increasingly using sophisticated technology, and drones and artificial intelligence have opened new ways to plan and carry out attacks. The United Nations this week is hosting its third high-level conference of heads of counter-terrorism agencies. Wembanyama listed at 7-foot-4, but check back later in September

NEW YORK (AP) — The tall task of determining Victor Wembanyama’s height isn’t finished yet.The expected No. 1 pick in the NBA draft might be 7-foot-4. Maybe not, though. While the league is listing him at that height in the draft guide on its media website, it’s not official.Check back in September. That’s the deadline for the San Antonio Spurs — assuming they take Wembanyama with the first pick as expected Thursday night — to submit an official height for him without shoes to the league.Wembanyama’s height listed in the draft guide falls in the middle of conflicting reports about how tall the Frenchman is. It’s not official, however, because Wembanyama didn’t attend the NBA Draft Combine in May, where prospects are measured.Wembanyama, who arrived in New York on Monday and was scheduled to throw out the first pitch before a Yankees game on Tuesday, said he was 7-3 in October during his French pro team’s exhibition games in Las Vegas. Sitting along the Hudson River near New York City, the Indian Point nuclear plant repeatedly attracted controversy during the decades it generated electricity. Two years after its shutdown, it still is.The latest flashpoint revolves around plans to release 1.3 million gallons of water with traces of radioactive tritium into the river as part of the plant’s decommissioning. Supporters of the planned releases say they are just like those made when Indian Point was producing power and that the concentration of tritium has been far below federal standards. But opponents along the river question the health and safety claims. They say the releases of radioactive water could be a step back for a once notoriously polluted river that is now a popular summer attraction for sailors, kayakers and swimmers.Communities along the river have already passed resolutions opposing the discharges, and an online petition has gathered more than 440,000 signatures. Now a bill being considered in state...Denver weather: Severe storm chance returns Wednesday
