IRVING, Texas (AP) — IRVING, Texas (AP) — Celanese Corporation (CE) on Monday reported second-quarter net income of $220 million.On a per-share basis, the Irving, Texas-based company said it had net income of $2.01. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to $2.17 per share.The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.46 per share.The chemical company posted revenue of $2.8 billion in the period, which also fell short of Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.84 billion.For the current quarter ending in September, Celanese expects its per-share earnings to range from $2 to $2.50.The company expects full-year earnings in the range of $9 to $10 per share.Celanese shares have increased 22% since the beginning of the year. (AP) — The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is cutting its field nearly in half and eliminating one of the three courses, part of the price to become a signature event with a $20 million purse in a revamped 2024 schedule the PGA Tour released Monday.Pebble Beach replaces the Phoenix Open as a signature event, which was expected. DENVER (KDVR) — The new Colorado gun law that limits sales to people 21 and older is on hold.A federal judge ruled Monday in favor of a gun advocacy group, which asked the court to block the law. It took effect Monday, but the judge's ruling blocks the state from enforcing it. Proposed bill could ban seclusion rooms in Colorado schools Rocky Mountain Gun Owners argues the law is a Second Amendment violation. The group is already suing over the law, and on Thursday, they filed for a temporary restraining order.Named as plaintiffs are two Coloradans who are older than 18 but younger than 21 and who said they want to buy a gun for self-defense.Phillip A. Brimmer, chief judge for the U.S. District of Colorado, wrote the ruling. DENVER (KDVR) -- Winter is coming ... in a few months. The Farmers' Almanac released the winter 2024 extended weather forecast and it predicts a cooler winter than last year. The Farmers' Almanac projects an overall chillier winter than usual due to the indication of an El Niño, which is unusually high water temperatures off the Pacific Coast of South America, according to the Almanac. While southern states are expected to have unseasonably cold temperatures and more storms, in Colorado, the Almanac anticipates a cold winter with average snowfall. Soon, it will get dark before 8 p.m. Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Travis Michels said El Niño won't change Colorado's winter, but the winter may be wetter than normal. While Michels expects the winter to be an average temperature, he predicts wetter conditions in the coming months due to the previous rain this year. Three firefighters were taken to the hospital and 30 people were displaced after a fire spread through three triple-decker homes in Dorchester Monday afternoon, officials said. The fire started shortly before 2:30 p.m. Later speaking with reporters, Boston’s fire commissioner said the fire appeared to have started in a basement area of a building at 20 Irma Street before rising through the back of the structure, punching through the roof and spreading to two neighboring buildings. A 20-year-old man accused in connection with a deadly shooting in the Myles Standish State Forest in Plymouth last month appeared in court Monday to face a murder charge in the case. John Geovanni Pires Monteiro Macedo pleaded not guilty and was ordered held without bail, the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office announced. The DA’s office said police initially responded around 2:40 p.m. on July 12 after receiving several calls reporting a shooting at the state forest. On scene, the DA’s office said first responders found Robert Aponte-Flores, 25 suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his face, left arm and right collarbone.
