ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. – Senior citizens in St. Charles County are getting some good news on their property taxes and will soon get some relief in the form of a tax freeze. The county council on Monday approved a new tax freeze after the state legislature approved a state law earlier this year, allowing each county to decide if they want to implement the tax freeze bill. The new bill was met with cheers from senior citizens at the county council meeting. Don Schoedel spoke before the council's vote, urging them to approve the tax freeze. He said the new bill is needed relief for seniors, especially with the current inflation."My valuation in 2023 increased 34% in a two-year period. No improvements to the home. A little three bedroom home in St. Charles County, and it's a function of the aberration of the market. The point is the valuation which you're going to be holding us to is inflated," he said. By Krysten Chambrot, The New York TimesAffordable meals don’t have to come at the expense of deliciousness. These five dishes feel rich, fresh and sustaining but won’t break the bank.1. Shrimp Fried RiceInspired by the fire-kissed flavor of Japanese steakhouse and hibachi fare, especially at the Kani House restaurants in Georgia, this quick fried rice dish is a veritable comfort. Frying the shrimp first in oil, just until they’re cooked, and reserving them to add back at the end means they stay tender. Plus, you’re left with the most aromatic shrimp oil in which to fry the rice and vegetables. The shortcut of bagged frozen mixed vegetables comes in handy here, not least because they need only to be thawed by the skillet’s high heat. The yum yum sauce, a mayo-ketchup dipping sauce that is ordinarily reserved for grilled hibachi meats, tastes fabulous splattered over the finished rice — not unlike how artist Jackson Pollock flung paint on canvas.By Eric KimYield: 4 to 6 servings...Police looking for man who set fires to Corona property

SAN FRANCISCO – San Francisco Giants right-hander Ross Stripling on Monday tamped down some of the hot-button language he used over the weekend to detail his roster situation but noted he still doesn’t exactly know when he’ll come off of the injured list.Stripling, who remains inactive despite being healthy and eligible to come off the 15-day IL on Sept. 1, expressed his frustration Saturday about what he perceived to be a lack of communication regarding when he’ll pitch in a big-league game again, using the term “phantom IL” to describe what he’s experiencing.“That was a trigger word and I shouldn’t have used that,” Stripling said before the Giants opened a three-game series with the Cleveland Guardians at Oracle Park. “That was my word that I just threw out there. Definitely should not use that verbiage.“But that’s just kind of how I felt at the time because I feel healthy and I do want to pitch, but that was the wrong choice of words.”Stripling told Bay Area News Grou...Another carjacked BMW found in Oakland

The teens continued to drive at a high rate of speed and crashed the BMW into a parked vehicle on 50th Avenue near Bancroft Avenue. The trio bolted out of the stolen car, ran, and attempted to evade arrest. A moment of silence was held in memory of the nearly 3,000 people who died at the Twin Towers and the Pentagon and aboard a passenger jet bound for Washington that crashed in a field in rural Pennsylvania.Fans were given wristbands that alternated white and green flashing light, and fireworks were ignited midway through the anthem.
